Transit Tragedy Presentation  - October 10, 2015

Approximately 35 people came to the Quinn Fire Academy to see museum board member Jeff Stern present a slide show on two transit tradegies. The first occured on May 25, 1950 when a streetcar struck a gasoline truck on State Street just north of 63rd creating a ball of fire that killed 33 and set several nearby buildings ablaze. The second was an "L" train crash on February 4, 1977 at the Lake/Wabash curve, where a moving train struck one that was stopped at the station ahead, toppling 4 "L" train cars onto the street below, killing 11 passengers and a pedestrian.
